Run for ALD
About The Run
About The Run
The Run for ALD was organized by John J. Kane, Esquire, the former managing partner of the Philadelphia maritime and labor law firm of Freedman and Lorry, P.C, after he was diagnosed with the disease in 2001. Despite Jack?s death from ALD in 2003, the Run has continued through the efforts of family and friends, including Jack's daughter, Taylor, who has been a tireless advocate in continuing her father's effort to raise awareness of ALD. (To join "Taylor's Team" of junior volunteers, click HERE.) 100% of the proceeds of the Run are dedicated to finding a cure for ALD.
To date the Run for ALD has donated more than $200,000 to the Kennedy Krieger Institute, a non-profit hospital whose doctors and scientists are leaders in the effort to prevent, treat and cure ALD and other neurogenetic diseases. This money has been used to fund research into genetic testing and has helped contribute to the development of a breakthrough method of screening newborns for the ALD gene ~ a test which could ultimately save thousands of lives every year. Run for ALD is a member of the ALD-AMN Global Alliance.
